Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about Mandt training, small blended classes, onsite or in-home options, registration, and Maryland DDA provider needs.

What is the blended training option?

Our blended Mandt training splits the curriculum across two delivery methods. The foundational chapters (1 and 2) are completed online through self-paced e-learning. The technical chapters (3 and 4) are completed during one in-person training day with hands-on practice and certification assessment. This format is approved by The Mandt System and meets all Maryland DDA compliance requirements. The cost is the same — $244 per student.

How long is the training?

The training length depends on the format you choose. Our blended format lets students complete Chapters 1 and 2 online at their own pace, then attend one full in-person day for Chapters 3 and 4. The standard format is a two-day, in-person course. Both formats require completion of all four chapters to earn your certification.

Who should attend Mandt training?

Mandt training is appropriate for any professional who works directly with individuals who may exhibit challenging or crisis behaviors. This includes direct support professionals, behavioral health staff, special education teachers, residential care workers, case managers, and program supervisors. No prior training is required.

Can I register as an individual, or is this only for organizations?

Both. Individuals can register directly through our Arlo catalog and attend a scheduled public session. Organizations, Maryland DDA provider teams, and family-directed support teams can contact us to arrange group registration, invoicing, or a private blended class.

Where are classes held?

Scheduled public sessions are held at listed class locations. Specific dates, times, and locations are listed on our Arlo upcoming classes page. For private small-group classes, CLI may be able to come onsite to your agency or to a home-based training location, depending on schedule and class needs.

Can my organization request a private training session?

Yes. If you have a team of staff to train and would prefer a dedicated session, contact us to discuss availability and pricing. Private blended classes can be a good fit for small teams, including groups as small as four, and may be scheduled onsite at your agency or in a family home when that makes training easier.

Can CLI provide Mandt training for Maryland DDA provider staff?

Yes. CLI provides blended Mandt training for direct support professionals and teams supporting people in Maryland DDA-funded or DDA-adjacent settings. The blended format is approved by The Mandt System and is designed to help teams complete the required online coursework before the in-person hands-on training day.

Does my employer reimburse Mandt training costs?

Many organizations reimburse Mandt training as a professional development or compliance requirement. Your Arlo registration confirmation and receipt can typically be used to support a reimbursement request. If you need an invoice in a specific format, contact us and we’ll help.

How long is the Mandt certification valid?

A Mandt System certificate is valid for one year from the date of completion. Renewal training is required annually to maintain certification.

How do I register?

Registration is handled through our Arlo catalog. Visit the Upcoming Classes page to see available sessions and register directly. If you run into any issues, contact us and we’ll help.

What happens if I need to cancel, reschedule, or transfer my registration?

Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to Doug@CompassionateLearningInstitute.com. Cancellations received at least 30 calendar days before the course start may be eligible for a refund or credit. Cancellations received less than 30 calendar days before the course start but before the event starts are eligible for credit only. Cancellations after the event starts, no-shows, and partial attendance are not eligible for refunds or credits.

If CLI cancels or reschedules a course, registrants may choose a transfer to a future session, a credit valid for one year, or a refund.

What should I bring, wear, and expect on the in-person training day?

Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early so you have time to park, check in, and get settled before class starts. Your class confirmation will include the specific address, time, and any location-specific parking instructions.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move and practice safely. Closed-toe shoes are recommended for the hands-on portion of training.

Bring water and any snacks you may want during breaks. Unless your class confirmation says lunch is provided, plan to bring lunch or make your own lunch arrangements.

CLI provides the training materials needed for class. During the in-person portion, you should expect instructor-led review, discussion, hands-on technical skills practice, scenario-based coaching, and the required certification assessment.

Your Mandt certificate is issued after you complete all required training components and meet assessment requirements. If your employer needs documentation in a specific format, contact us and we will help.
